Fandroid
The First Generative
Brand Mascot
We didn’t just show people the newly refreshed Android robot, we let them become it, with an AI-powered design tool that turned the brand’s iconic mascot into an infinite canvas for self expression. By leveraging generative AI, we moved beyond the traditional “kit of parts” ( pre-made assets) to a truly generative system. The idea was simple, but revolutionary: turn a photo or written prompt into a custom Android Bot. This allowed us to hand over the keys to the brand, proving that rigorous brand guidelines and total creative freedom could coexist. All while showcasing Google’s powerful suite of AI tools, in what was essentially a product demo cleverly disguised as fun for developers.
Overview
Bringing the bots to life with
the best Google AI
In close collaboration with the Google Developer Marketing and Google Pi teams, R/GA created the AI training assets to fine-tune and train the Imagen 3 model until we arrived at Android bots that reflected the users’ likeness through a vast array of fun accessories, elaborate clothing, and spot-on hairstyles.
Dialing up the fun with
animation and vibes
We were then enlisted to amp up the customization with AI animation, leveraging Veo 3, Google’s AI video generation tool. To bring this to life, R/GA conceptualized 10 different vibes based on interest-based themes. Our 10 vibes consisted of animated backgrounds and 8-second stories — complete with impressive dance moves and unexpected actions. The real magic of the vibes were unfolded with Veo 3, which delivered a slightly different animation each time and created a truly unique bot video for every user.
Showcasing the magic
of Androidify in person
Unveiled at I/O 2025 and presented on the main stage in front of thousands of attendees, the interactive Androidify demo prompted event goers to grab accessories, stand in front of their own giant screen equipped with a camera, and customize their Android bots. After scanning a QR code, users received a fun sticker sheet takeaway with their own personal Android bot as well as the opportunity to download and share to social. Today, the demo continues to travel the globe, making appearances at 13 Google events across 8 countries with much fanfare worldwide.
